Volunteers of America is a renowned and highly respected human services organization, dedicated to making a difference in the lives of thousands of vulnerable individuals and families in New York City and the Greater New York area. With a rich 125-year history, our mission is to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050, providing housing, health services, and wealth-building opportunities to those in need. Through our comprehensive range of programs and services, including emergency shelters, transitional housing, and permanent supportive housing, we assist over 11,000 adults and children annually.

We are particularly proud of our work in serving veterans, as we are the largest provider of residential services within a coalition that has effectively eradicated chronic homelessness for veterans in the city. At Volunteers of America, we recognize that the causes of homelessness often stem from a lack of affordable housing, unmet health needs, and limited job opportunities. By addressing these issues head-on, and working towards systemic change, we strive to empower our community and create lasting solutions.

Our dedicated staff is committed to breaking down barriers and providing support in areas such as housing, healthcare, and employment. Whether it's children with developmental delays, seniors, veterans, survivors of domestic violence, at-risk youth, people living with HIV/AIDS, or individuals with behavioral health or substance use-related needs, we offer guidance and assistance to ensure that no one is left to face these challenges alone. Since our founding in 1896 in New York City, Volunteers of America has grown to serve communities across 46 states and the District of Columbia.

Today, our national headquarters are located in Alexandria, Virginia. While our name may have evolved, our commitment to serving others remains the same. Our dedicated professionals, whom we now refer to as employees, continue to work tirelessly to support individuals and create thriving communities.
