## Description

Vereniging Openbaar Onderwijs (VOO) is a Dutch association supporting public education, equal opportunities for children and participation in school decision-making. Founded in 1866, it works to strengthen public schools and promote the idea that children from the same neighbourhood can learn with and from one another. Its work is organised around three themes: educational participation, equal opportunities and public education.

VOO provides training, courses and webinars for school participation councils, school leaders and other education stakeholders. Its services include expert guidance, a helpdesk for member councils, a knowledge bank, the MR Academie learning platform and tools such as quick scans and a participation quiz. The association also helps schools develop plans to improve equal opportunities, and offers team days and parent evenings focused on public education.

VOO shares education news through bulletins, newsletters, podcasts and media coverage, and provides resources about public education’s values of freedom, equality and encounter. Individuals and school participation councils in primary and secondary education can become members to support its work and access relevant services.
