## Description

Friends of Bawku is a Dutch foundation supporting the Presbyterian Hospital in Bawku and healthcare services in Ghana’s Upper East Region. Its work focuses on strengthening local capacity and improving hospital facilities through initiatives shaped by the needs identified by the hospital. The foundation sends medical and technical specialists for short assignments, generally lasting no more than six weeks, to share expertise with local staff. It also helps improve equipment and essential services, with lasting improvements to existing care as a priority.

Past contributions include support for a modern operating theatre and maternity facilities, improvements to electricity and water supplies, and development of dental services. The foundation has also assisted with reorganising the laboratory, pharmacy and radiology department. Current and planned work includes continued support for projects such as the Food for Life programme, as well as proposed training for midwives and a small psychiatric centre in Bolgatanga. Friends of Bawku is funded through donations from individuals and businesses and welcomes enquiries from prospective supporters.
