## Description

WABES, the West African Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services initiative, is dedicated to enhancing the region's contributions to the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). Its mission focuses on building capacity across West Africa to support the effective preparation of IPBES assessments through collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and institutions. WABES serves as a vital platform that fosters the science-policy interface, encouraging partnerships to strengthen biodiversity and ecosystem service understanding.

The organization offers a range of services, including workshops, e-learning modules, and opportunities for institutional collaboration. Through its annual workshops, WABES brings together experts to share interdisciplinary knowledge and develop policy-relevant scientific assessments. In addition, WABES emphasizes the importance of local expertise, aiming to create a regional pool of specialists that can adapt international best practices for local application. By bridging theoretical and applied research, WABES not only addresses current environmental challenges but also serves as a model for similar initiatives globally.
