## Description

The West Africa Centre for Counter-Extremism (WACCE) is an independent regional organization founded in 2014 to help prevent violent extremism and conflict in West Africa. Based in Accra, Ghana, it works with local communities, government and security agencies, and other state and non-state partners. Its mission is to challenge extremism, promote pluralism, and inspire peace, with an emphasis on understanding the local factors that contribute to radicalization and violence.

WACCE conducts research and community outreach to inform counter-terrorism policies and strategies, deepen understanding of violent extremism, and strengthen resilience. Its work includes research reports, expert commentary, and accessible explainers on topics such as jihadism and radicalization. The organization also convenes dialogues, supports peacebuilding initiatives, and builds the capacity of security agencies and community representatives. Its projects include Ambassadors for Peace, Building Peace, Mining for Peace, and Peace and Election. WACCE reports having helped dissuade radicalized youth from joining extremist groups and empowered thousands of young people and community representatives to support peace and resilience.
