## Description

WAHO | OOAS, also known as the West African Health Organisation, is a specialized institution of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) that is responsible for health issues in the region. Established in 1987 by the Heads of State and Government, WAHO aims to achieve the highest standard of health and protection for the people in West Africa through the harmonization of policies, resource pooling, and cooperation with member states and other stakeholders. Headquartered in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, WAHO is entrusted with the coordination of regional health interventions within the ECOWAS region. It serves as a proactive instrument of regional health integration, recognized by member states and the international community. WAHO's decision-making bodies include the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS, the Council of ECOWAS Ministers, and the Assembly of Health Ministers. With its political mandate, direct communication with decision-makers, and ability to propose conventions and regulations, WAHO has comparative advantages in advocating for health resolutions, harmonizing policies, and mobilizing resources. It also facilitates the exchange of resources between countries and promotes health interventions tailored to the specific needs of West African countries.
