## Description

Wake is a compassionate and innovative organization dedicated to addressing community needs surrounding death and dying. Founded on the principle that everyone deserves access to meaningful and sustainable deathcare, Wake serves as a non-commercial resource for individuals confronting end-of-life issues. They provide essential services, including assistance with healthcare directives, connections to death doulas and home funeral guides, and facilitate Death Cafes—casual gatherings designed to discuss the often-taboo subject of death openly. Located in Louisiana, Wake is actively working to create affordable and eco-friendly burial options in response to the growing scarcity of low-cost burial spaces, particularly in urban settings like New Orleans. Their commitment to social equity in deathcare highlights the importance of addressing historical disparities while fostering a deeper cultural understanding of death. By promoting dialogue, community support, and green burial solutions, Wake aims to transform the conversation around dying into one that is accessible, compassionate, and meaningful.
