About Walsh Park
Description
The Walsh Park Benevolent Corporation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing housing for year-round Fishers Island residents. Their mission is to promote the viability of the year-round community by creating and maintaining a supply of attractive year-round housing. To achieve this, Walsh Park offers a formal application and interview process, where feedback from the community is solicited.
Once approved, applicants have the opportunity to purchase or rent a Walsh Park-owned home on a subsidized basis. Importantly, Walsh Park retains ownership of the land to ensure ongoing availability of affordable housing exclusively for the year-round population. This innovative approach has been successful and has been replicated by other island communities.
Throughout its history, the organization has acquired various properties on Fishers Island, and currently has 27 living units, with over half being owner-occupied and the rest being rental units. Walsh Park also engages in community involvement and manages current properties, reviews applicants, and plans future projects.
