Description
Washington County Kids is a nonprofit organization on a mission to increase access to quality out-of-school-time (OST) programs for children and youth in Washington County. Established in 2009, they work tirelessly to expand awareness of the need for and value of OST programs. By partnering with program providers, school districts, parents, civic groups, and business and elected leaders, Washington County Kids serves as a centralized hub and resource for the community.
OST programs, including early learning, after-school, and summer programs, play a vital role in helping kids succeed. Children who participate in OST programs are more likely to excel academically, graduate from high school on time, and avoid negative behaviors such as bullying and substance abuse. Not only do these programs benefit children, but they also support parents by providing a safe environment for their children and allowing them to focus on their jobs.
The biggest challenge to program access is cost, both for families and providers. To address this issue, Washington County Kids has established the Friends of Washington County, which aims to secure sustainable funding specifically for OST programs. By supporting Washington County Kids, you can help ensure that all children in the county have access to quality OST programs and the opportunity to reach their full potential.
You can donate online, volunteer, attend board meetings, or join their mailing list to get involved. Together, we can make Washington County a model for OST programs and pave the way for success for all children and youth
