## Description

The Washington State Society Sons of the American Revolution (WASSAR) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization founded in 1895. With approximately 500 members across ten chapters, it is part of the national Sons of the American Revolution, a lineage society open to people who can trace ancestry to a patriot of the American Revolution. WASSAR welcomes members of all ages, races, religions, and backgrounds.

The society honors Revolutionary War ancestors by promoting patriotism, serving communities, and educating future generations about the nation’s founding principles. Its activities include preserving historical records and commemorating people and events of the Revolution, supporting genealogical research, and providing guidance to people seeking to identify patriot ancestors. WASSAR also offers educational programs and resources, including student poster, brochure, essay, oration, and video contests, as well as history curricula and media. Community programs recognize public service, veterans, flag displays, Eagle Scouts, JROTC participants, teachers, and acts of heroism.
