## Description

Wasser ist ein kostbares Gut is a regional educational initiative and online portal focused on protecting waterways and raising awareness of water as a vital resource. Launched in December 2020 by teacher Tim Schmidt, it initially served students in Ganderkesee and Delmenhorst and later opened participation to learners and apprentices across Germany. Its approach encourages people to observe local environmental issues, assess them, and take practical action, connecting water protection with climate protection and flood preparedness.

The portal publishes original reports by students and other participants, who can become symbolic guardians of a waterway they choose and follow its condition over time. It also provides educational materials, a virtual climate trail, videos, project information, press releases, and links to current flood warnings. Topics include local rivers, lakes, wetlands, water quality, pollution, contaminated sites, and flood management. The site documents activities such as water sampling and screening, including information about sampling methods and reported results. Participation and publication are described as free, with contributors responsible for writing their own reports.
