The Watermark Project is a dynamic initiative launched by Swim Drink Fish in 2015, dedicated to archiving personal narratives that reflect the profound relationship between communities and water bodies across Canada. This grassroots effort aims to gather one story from every Canadian household, termed a "Watermark," which encapsulates individual experiences with water—be it a cherished memory, an impactful moment, or a significant interaction. Each Watermark includes five essential elements: a person, a specific waterbody, a time frame, a location, and a narrative that illustrates the water's significance.

As a living repository of these connections, the Watermark Project not only celebrates our shared water heritage but also serves as a vital tool for environmental protection. By contributing stories, individuals register important waterbodies in a national database, help highlight their community's relationship with these resources, and provide critical documentation to support future conservation efforts.
