Water's Edge Village School (WEVS) is a chartered, nonprofit organization that offers unique educational opportunities to school-aged children in the Corolla community. Founded by the Corolla Education Foundation (CEF), WEVS aims to revitalize local education on the northern Outer Banks, leveraging the extraordinary resources and coastal environment of the area. Initially built in the late 1800s, the Corolla Schoolhouse housed the children of lighthouse keepers and surfmen.

Over the years, the school expanded from a one-room to a two-room schoolhouse, serving a varying number of students. However, as enrollment declined, the school was repurposed as a residence, office, and home to the Corolla Wild Horse Foundation. In 2012, WEVS opened its doors with 16 students, offering a small student-to-teacher ratio, hands-on, project-based learning, and a multi-age learning environment.

As a charter school, WEVS receives public funding and is governed by a board of directors overseen by the State Board of Education. The school provides a quality education to elementary students in North Carolina, free of charge. With a child-centered approach, WEVS emphasizes social and environmental responsibility while nurturing both the body and mind of each student
