Wavepiston is a brand that specializes in harvesting wave energy at a competitive price, comparable to land-based wind turbines. Their non-intrusive, simple, robust, and low-cost solution allows for the efficient extraction of energy from the ocean. The brand is currently running two demonstration projects to showcase their technology. One is focused solely on electricity conversion, while the other combines electricity generation with desalination for island communities. These projects, located in Isola Piana, Sardinia, and PLOCAN, Gran Canaria, respectively, aim to provide clean electricity and desalinated water to these communities.

Wavepiston's innovative approach involves the use of a chain of energy collectors stretched between two anchored buoys. When waves pass through, the moving plates on the energy collectors pump seawater into a pipe, which leads to a turbine and/or a reverse osmosis system for energy conversion and/or desalination. This concept offers cost reduction, simplicity, robustness, and non-intrusive technology.

Wavepiston has set ambitious goals, aiming to have the first wave energy farm in the water by 2025. They strive to reach a competitive price of 200 €/MWh for electricity and 1 €/m3 for desalinated water.
