## Description

United Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW) is a grassroots organization founded in 2020 amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Formed by a collective of musicians and music industry professionals, UMAW aims to address systemic injustices within the music sector. They mobilize tens of thousands of industry workers to advocate for fair streaming royalties, equitable artist payments, and safer working conditions at live events.

UMAW's mission emphasizes the importance of dignity in creative work, aspiring to reclaim power from wealthy corporations and distribute resources more equitably among artists. By fostering solidarity across diverse backgrounds, UMAW seeks to create a music landscape that reflects the values of fairness, community support, and justice.

Through various focused campaigns such as Fair Pay at SXSW and Justice in Streaming, UMAW promotes grassroots organizing and mutual aid. Their commitment to a transformative music industry drives ongoing initiatives that empower members, advocate for better treatment, and envision a future where music workers thrive creatively and economically.
