Description

WEDI Buffalo is a brand dedicated to creating a culturally inclusive community where all residents of Western New York can thrive and succeed. With a focus on education and economic development, WEDI aims to remove systemic barriers to economic equity for underserved individuals in Buffalo. In the education sector, WEDI offers various programs to support Multilingual Language Learners (MLLs) in achieving literacy.

These programs include ENERGY for elementary-aged students, FLY for middle schoolers, Launch for high schoolers, and Peer Support Groups. By providing a continuum of educational resources, WEDI empowers youth to succeed in school and beyond. In the economic development realm, WEDI supports aspiring and early career entrepreneurs through the Microloans program and the West Side Bazaar, a small business incubator and community gathering space.

These initiatives enable entrepreneurs from underserved communities to launch, sustain, and grow their businesses. WEDI's programs and services are available to underserved residents in Western New York, including MLLs in the 14213 zip code and students at Lafayette International Community High School. Economic development programs are open to economically-disadvantaged adults earning 80% or less of the Area Median Income.

Founded in 2006 by the Westminster Presbyterian Church, WEDI has expanded its programming to meet the evolving needs of the community. Today, WEDI runs six programs and operates the West Side Bazaar, offering a wide range of delicious food and unique products from diverse cultures. By supporting education and entrepreneurship, WEDI is actively working towards creating a more equitable Buffalo
