Wello Oy is an innovative wave energy technology developer, with a team of international experts dedicated to creating a sustainable future. Their journey began in the Finnish countryside and has evolved into the development of the Penguin Wave Energy Converter. This novel concept harnesses the power of waves to convert energy, offering one of the most efficient, environmentally neutral, and cost-efficient wave energy converters on the market.

The founder and CEO, Heikki Paakkinen, started developing wave energy devices as a hobby, driven by a passion to find a way to propel boats without using an engine. Through years of experimentation and analysis of existing wave energy technologies, Heikki realized the potential to produce energy from wave movement. In 2008, Wello Oy was formed, and with the support of partners and subsidies, they were able to grow and attract a team of international experts.

Their breakthrough came in 2011 when the Penguin prototype was deployed, successfully demonstrating control, production, and survivability. After years of refinement, the Full-Scale Penguin Wave Energy Converter was constructed in late 2018. This commercially ready device, equipped with a 500-kW generator, represents a significant milestone in renewable energy from ocean waves.

Wello Oy is now preparing to deploy the Full-Scale Penguin at the BIMEP wave energy center in Armintza, showcasing their commitment to transforming the energy landscape
