## Description

West Auckland Historical Society is a community organisation dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Auckland’s West. Its work focuses on the region shaped by the Waitematā and Manukau harbours and the Tasman Sea, bringing local heritage to life through resources, activities and public programmes.

At Henderson’s Mill Cottage, the society’s Heritage Centre houses historical resources and displays that tell stories from across the area. Its archives include books, ephemera, newspaper articles, objects, oral histories, photographs and research files. Visitors can explore the collections, while monthly heritage talks feature speakers and presentations on local and, at times, national history. The society also runs a regular Family History Group, offering help with family history queries.

A shop sells reasonably priced books and journals about West Auckland heritage. Members and visitors can support the society’s work by joining, attending events or contributing as supporters and donors. Henderson’s Mill Cottage is open to visitors on Saturdays from 11am to 3pm, from mid-January to mid-December, with tours and school groups arranged at suitable times. Entry is by donation or arrangement.
