## Description

UKTAG (United Kingdom Technical Advisory Group) is a collaborative initiative formed by UK environment and conservation agencies to provide expert guidance on the scientific and technical elements of the European Union's Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC). This Directive imposes ambitious goals for improving and safeguarding the UK’s water environment—including rivers, lakes, wetlands, and groundwater. Chaired by the Environment Agency, UKTAG operates through specialized task teams that oversee various technical issues related to water management. 

Simultaneously, the Joint Agencies Groundwater Directive Advisory Group (JAGDAG) addresses the protection of groundwater under the Groundwater Daughter Directive (2006/118/EC). JAGDAG focuses on preventing pollutant entry into groundwater and involves multiple environmental agencies across the UK and Ireland. Both UKTAG and JAGDAG not only enhance national water management strategies but also contribute to European-level guidance and standards. Through research, consultations, and cross-agency collaboration, these groups work towards sustainable water management in the UK.
