About
Description
WHEFA, or the Wisconsin Health and Educational Facilities Authority, has been serving Wisconsin nonprofit health care institutions since 1979. What began as a financing assistance program for hospitals and health care entities has grown to include independent colleges and universities, continuing care facilities, schools, research facilities, and community rehabilitation providers. In 2013, WHEFA expanded its charter to provide low-cost capital financing to all Wisconsin 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.
WHEFA funds each project through the sale of revenue bonds, which are obtained through direct placement transactions or public offerings to individual and institutional investors. Importantly, no state or public funds are involved in these transactions. Instead, the repayment of bonds comes solely from the borrowing institution, sponsor, or guarantor.
WHEFA's bonds offer several advantages, including exemption from federal income taxation, resulting in significantly lower financing costs. As a result, WHEFA plays a vital role in supporting Wisconsin's nonprofit organizations and improving access to quality health care and education across the state
