## Description

Whittle the Wood is a celebrated annual event held in Craig, Colorado, that began in 1999 as a creative solution to remove diseased trees from the local park. What started as a necessity has evolved into a vibrant festival that attracts thousands of visitors each year. The event showcases skilled carvers who transform tree stumps into unique works of art, contributing to a lasting collection enjoyed by the community.

Taking place at Loudy-Simpson Park, Whittle the Wood features a range of entertainment activities, including a quick carve competition, live music, and dancing. Families can indulge in delicious food from local vendors and explore various crafts. The festival culminates on Saturday with awards for the best carvings in categories like Judge's Choice and People's Choice. Additionally, the event includes special activities such as the Wake the Whittler 5K run and the Pirates of the Yampa River Race. With new leadership aiming to uphold its legacy, Whittle the Wood promises to remain a cherished tradition for years to come.
