## Description

Wien Modern is Austria’s largest festival for new music and one of the world’s major events of its kind. Founded in 1988 at the initiative of conductor Claudio Abbado, the annual festival takes place in Vienna each November, presenting a month-long programme across venues throughout the city. Its approach to “new music” is deliberately open: each edition reconsiders what contemporary music can be and how audiences might encounter it.

The festival brings together concerts and a wide range of artistic formats, including installations, exhibitions, projects and performances. Its programme connects music with other subjects and experiences; the 2026 edition, titled “Im großen Ganzen,” explores music and ecosystems, inviting audiences to listen beyond a human-centred perspective. Wien Modern also offers PLUS, a free-entry programme of conversations, workshops, educational activities and other events, welcoming a broad audience.

Visitors can browse the event calendar and buy individual tickets or festival passes through the online shop.
