## Description

The Wikimedia Foundation is the nonprofit organization behind Wikipedia, working to keep free knowledge accessible to people around the world. Its technology supports a broad ecosystem of Wikimedia projects and helps sustain the infrastructure that makes knowledge available online. The Foundation also works on public policy and initiatives to close knowledge gaps, with the goal of enabling more people to contribute to and benefit from shared knowledge.

The organization invites the public to support its mission in several ways. People can donate, become monthly donors, give through other channels, or leave a gift in their will. Volunteers can take part in activities ranging from editing to organizing, while advocates can help protect Wikipedia and the people who make it possible. The Foundation also shares news and information about its work, including public policy updates and statements.
