## Description

Wild Griffin is a co-operative society in formation in the United Kingdom, created to help communities monitor and care for local nature. Its model responds to the long-term monitoring duties introduced by England’s Environment Act 2021, which require biodiversity monitoring at development sites but can be costly to deliver through conventional surveys. Wild Griffin aims to build a shared, member-owned record of green spaces, from ponds and hedgerows to parks and commons.

The co-operative has two complementary services. Free, voluntary community surveys let members record habitat type, condition and geotagged photographs, building a screening-grade picture over time. For developers, habitat banks and consultancies with monitoring responsibilities, trained members can conduct paid, planning-grade site visits, with data validated to standards accepted by planning authorities. The organisation describes these visits as a lower-cost, repeatable approach, not a replacement for qualified ecologists or a claim that community observations alone constitute planning evidence.

Wild Griffin is governed on a one-member, one-vote basis.
