## Description

The American Wild Horse Campaign (AWHC) is the leading voice in America for the protection of wild mustangs and burros. As a nonprofit organization, AWHC is dedicated to securing the future of these iconic animals and preserving the Western public lands they inhabit. 

AWHC's primary objective is to reform the federal wild horse and burro roundup program, replacing it with a more humane management system that allows these animals to remain wild, protected, and free. They also manage the world's largest humane fertility control program for wild, free-roaming horses. 

With nearly 80,000 wild horses and burros roaming freely across 27 million federal acres in various states, AWHC works tirelessly to ensure their well-being. They raise awareness and advocate for legislation and litigation to protect these animals from capture, branding, harassment, and death. 

Despite the 1971 law that protects wild horses and burros, special interests, particularly the powerful livestock industry, drive the inhumane roundup policies. This results in the unnecessary expenses of capturing, housing, and feeding these animals, diverting resources from the public lands.
