## Description

Wilma Klaassen is a Groningen-based professional whose work focuses on building stronger working relationships between care professionals and the parents of children with intensive support needs, including adults with severe intellectual disabilities. Drawing on her care background, professional education and personal experience as the mother of a young adult daughter with complex support needs, she brings multiple perspectives to discussions about parent involvement, family life and collaboration.

Wilma contributes to research and education, gives talks, and organises training sessions for care professionals and others. She also supports both professionals and parents in matters related to working together. Her approach centres on creating parent-friendly relationships in which people have space to share their experiences, understand one another’s positions and feel heard. This may involve everyday conversations as well as difficult concerns about a child’s care and wellbeing.

Through teaching, writing, speaking and guidance, Wilma aims to make experiences that are often difficult to capture in policy more visible.
