## Description

Founded to honor literary excellence, the Windham-Campbell Prizes empower writers to concentrate on their craft without the burden of financial worries. Established through the generous donations of Donald Windham and Sandy Campbell, this prestigious award recognizes exceptional talent across multiple genres, including fiction, nonfiction, drama, and poetry. The prizes serve as a vital platform for authors from various backgrounds, showcasing their work to a broader audience. Award recipients, such as Christina Sharpe, Hanif Abdurraqib, and m. nourbeSe philip, exemplify the diverse voices celebrated by the program. With an annual festival that features a rich schedule of events, the Windham-Campbell Prizes also fosters community engagement through discussions and performances. At the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library at Yale University, the archive ensures that the legacies of these writers are preserved for future generations. Through its mission and initiatives, the Windham-Campbell Prizes continue to contribute significantly to the literary landscape.
