## Description

Wingthicket is a beginner’s field notebook for discovering and identifying birds in cities. Its focus is everyday urban birdwatching: learning the species close to home, observing their behaviour and habitats, and building identification skills without disturbing wildlife. The site offers three practical guides covering how to get started, ethical observation and urban habitats. Beginners can start without equipment; the notebook also provides advice on binoculars, choosing a time to go out, and recording observations.

Wingthicket’s field cards are designed to help users identify 14 common urban bird species. Cards include descriptions of appearance, calls, behaviour, size and habitat, with filters for habitat and size. The notebook explains basic bird anatomy and field marks, helping readers understand the language used in identification guides. Its habitat guide covers parks, waterways, streets, buildings and vacant lots, highlighting where different birds may be found. Throughout, Wingthicket emphasizes putting birds’ welfare first, with guidance against approaching nests, using playback or bait, and sharing precise locations of sensitive species.
