## Description

Michigan is about to get a new area code, and the largest metropolitan area, Detroit, is leading the charge. With a growing population and a limited number of available phone numbers, the state is in need of an additional area code. Currently, Michigan utilizes 12 different area codes, but with the demand for phone numbers increasing, the original area code for Detroit, (313), is in danger of running out. To address this issue, the new area code, 679, will be introduced in November 2025. However, existing (313) numbers will not be affected by this change. The Michigan Public Service Commission projects that the state may need 10 new area codes in the next 60 years. Brace yourself, Michigan, for a new era of phone numbers is coming your way!
