## Description

Slaymaker Fine Art is a Chicago-based original fine art company that describes itself as one of the largest sources of original art in the American heartland. Established in 1956 by Martha Slaymaker, the company specializes in selling original works of fine art wholesale to the trade. Its offerings include works on paper and canvas produced to Library of Congress standards, serving fine art galleries, art dealers, and corporate art consultants. Slaymaker also provides information about artists through an artist index and publishes interviews and a glossary on its website. The company’s history and name are connected to the Slaymaker family and the English translation of the German name Schleiermächer, associated with veils, drapery, and canvas making. Its current logo retains the family coat of arms, featuring a stone hammer, an ascending wing or vapor, and a veil motif. Slaymaker operates from an address on West Aldine Avenue in Chicago. Visits are by appointment, with customers asked to call Woody Slaymaker to arrange a time.
