About
Description
Worker's Justice Project (WJP) is a New York City worker center that was established in 2010, with a mission to educate, organize, and fight for better work conditions and social justice in the workplace. With over 12,000 members, WJP focuses on organizing low-wage, immigrant workers in industries such as construction, house cleaning, and app-based delivery, aiming to raise workplace standards. WJP runs various worker-led programs and campaigns across the five boroughs of New York City to enhance the social, economic, and political conditions of workers.
They work towards empowering low-wage immigrant workers through education, organizing, leadership development, and the growth of grassroots economic alternatives. The organization's goals include changing the conditions that lead to exploitation, strengthening the grassroots base of the labor movement, and creating grassroots economic alternatives. One of WJP's initiatives is the Day Laborer Centers & Workers Cooperatives Development Programs, which seeks to provide equal access to living-wage jobs and create career pathways through skills training, certifications, and direct engagement of employers.
Additionally, WJP supports Los Deliveristas Unidos, a growing movement of app-based food delivery workers advocating for better wages, conditions, safety measures, and rights. Furthermore, their ongoing campaign, Zona Segura (Safety Zone), aims to improve and enforce health and safety standards for immigrant day laborers and construction workers. Worker's Justice Project is dedicated to empowering workers and fostering a fair and just workplace for all
