## Description

Workplace Scholarships is a newly formed national nonprofit preparing to operate as a Scholarship Granting Organization under the Educational Choice for Children Act. Its workplace giving program is designed to help employers and employees fund K–12 scholarships through the federal Education Freedom Tax Credit, expected to launch in January 2027. Employees can contribute up to $1,700 annually through payroll, with the credit offsetting their federal tax liability dollar for dollar. The organization says this can leave take-home pay unchanged and requires no fees, matching funds, or payroll integration project from employers.

Workplace Scholarships provides guided fund setup, employee enrollment, communications, compliance support, reporting, and scholarship administration. Families apply directly, and awards are made independently under federal eligibility rules. Scholarships may support private school tuition, tutoring, curriculum materials, and other qualified expenses. They can also fund AI-powered learning software for students in public, private, or home school. Eligible students generally come from households at or below 300% of area median income, and awards are limited to children in states that opt into the program.
