## Description

The World Autism Awareness Day Japan Executive Committee is a national initiative that promotes understanding of autism and other developmental disabilities. Established in Japan in connection with the United Nations’ designation of April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day, the committee brings together the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and relevant organizations to encourage a society where people with developmental disabilities can live with greater understanding and support.

Each year, April 2–8 is observed in Japan as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Week. Activities include blue-lighting landmarks, online awareness events, local initiatives, public messages and photo galleries. The committee’s website shares information about autism, answers common questions, highlights events across Japan and features messages from individuals, families, supporters and public figures.

Its educational and outreach resources include downloadable posters and leaflets, official LINE stickers, online video content, a Sesame Street story about autism, and the theme song “We Belong: Our Song.” Through these materials and public campaigns, the committee invites communities, organizations and businesses to take part in promoting awareness, respect and inclusion.
