About

Description

The World Mosquito Program (WMP) is a global initiative owned by Monash University, dedicated to protecting communities worldwide from mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, Zika, yellow fever, and chikungunya. Through the innovative use of Wolbachia, a bacterium, the program has developed a groundbreaking method to reduce the transmission of these diseases by mosquitoes. Operating in 13 countries, WMP has already protected nearly 11 million people.

Multiple trials have demonstrated that their Wolbachia method is safe and effective, significantly decreasing the risk of virus transmission across entire cities and regions. In areas where Wolbachia is established at a high level, virus transmission is greatly reduced, leading to local elimination of disease. Driven by collaboration and innovation, WMP works closely with local governments, communities, and partners to empower and strengthen communities at risk.

Their natural and self-sustaining approach ensures long-term success in reducing mosquito-borne diseases. Join the World Mosquito Program in their mission to create healthier communities and prevent the devastating impact of mosquito-borne diseases
