Western Piedmont COG (Council of Governments) is a voluntary association of local governments in Western North Carolina. Established in 1968, it serves as a valuable resource for long-range planning and technical assistance. The COG consists of Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba Counties, as well as the 24 cities and towns within those counties.
The organization's mission is to provide professional and cost-effective assistance to local governments on various regional, state, and federal issues and programs. They offer a wide range of services through their seven work groups, which include Administration and Finance, Workforce Development, Community and Economic Development, Community and Regional Planning, Regional Housing Authority, Aging, and GIS/Data Center. The COG aims to promote cooperation and joint efforts in solving regional problems, facilitate economic development, and help establish and meet regional development goals.
