With a reputation for innovation, WRR has played a significant role in shaping the radio industry as we know it today. Founded by inventor Henry Garrett, WRR initially served as a means of communication for firefighters in the field. Over time, it evolved into a powerhouse of entertainment, delighting listeners with music and jokes. WRR has since become a beloved fixture in North Texas, maintaining its status as the second-oldest operating radio station in the country. In a significant development, the brand has recently transitioned to a commercial-free model, thanks to its partnership with KERA. Under the new management, WRR remains committed to providing access to arts opportunities for the millions of residents it serves. With a dedicated community-powered model that relies on listener donations, WRR continues to be a beacon of cultural enrichment in North Texas.
