## Description

The Yamagata Grand Fireworks Festival, a hallmark summer event in Yamagata, has been enchanting audiences since its inception in 1980. Held annually on August 14, this spectacular celebration features an impressive display of colorful fireworks lighting up the night sky above Kasajō Park. Over the years, the festival has evolved, drawing over 150,000 attendees who gather along the banks of the Mamigasaki River to witness this breathtaking spectacle.

Originally launched with 1,100 fireworks, the festival now showcases around 20,000 vibrant bursts, making each year’s event a grander experience than the last. In 2013, the cheerful mascot "Hanapon" was introduced, symbolizing the spirit of unity that the festival aims to foster within the community. Although the 2020 festival was sadly canceled due to COVID-19, surprise fireworks were launched across the city to uplift spirits. The Yamagata Grand Fireworks Festival, organized by the Yamagata Grand Fireworks Committee, not only mesmerizes spectators but also symbolizes hope and community togetherness.
