## Description

The York County Solid Waste Authority (YCSWA) is dedicated to facilitating responsible waste management in York County. With a mission to make garbage disposal easy and prioritize environmental well-being, YCSWA offers a range of services and programs. For waste disposal, YCSWA serves as a drop-off location for both large and small trash haulers, as well as residents and businesses looking to dispose of recyclables, bulk trash loads, electronics, refrigerants, metals, and yard waste. They also provide guidance to municipalities on curbside and drop-off center recycling programs. YCSWA operates various recycling programs, including electronics recycling, household hazardous waste collection, and Christmas tree recycling, with the goal of reducing the county's waste stream. In addition to their services, YCSWA is committed to educating the public about responsible waste management. They offer community outreach programs and conduct tours of their Resource Recovery Center. With a budget of approximately $44 million, YCSWA is financially self-supported, generating revenue from customer disposal fees and the sale of electricity from their Resource Recovery Center. They also receive funding through state grants. Established in 1971, YCSWA has consistently achieved its objectives through the dedication of their staff and volunteer board. They have four divisions: Engineering/Operations, Administrative, Recycling & Planning, and Community Services. The board, appointed by the county commissioners, actively works to further the goals of the Authority. YCSWA's history includes the establishment of the York County Sanitary Landfill in 1974 and the construction of the York County Resource Recovery Center in 1987. They have been proactive in addressing environmental concerns and exploring waste-to-energy technology as a sustainable waste disposal method. To find information about waste disposal and recycling options, individuals can search the YCSWA website or contact them directly. Overall, YCSWA is committed to providing efficient waste management services and infrastructure that prioritize waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and environmental sustainability.
