## Description

Youth Initiative for Climate Action – Sierra Leone (YICA-SL) is a youth-led nonprofit empowering people aged 15–35 to advance climate action and environmental protection across Sierra Leone. It connects locally driven community projects with national policy engagement, helping young people build skills, lead initiatives and shape decisions affecting their communities.

YICA-SL’s programmes include mentorship, practical training and mini-grants that support young women to design and deliver climate projects. Its community restoration work addresses damage to wetlands and mining sites in Kono District, while Chiefdom Environmental Enforcement Coordination Committees help communities monitor environmental violations and connect traditional authorities with formal enforcement. The organisation also facilitates youth consultations and community dialogues on climate policy and environmental accountability.

Through NatureUp school gardens, pupils learn sustainable practices in hands-on settings. YICA-SL also provides capacity building in project design, grant writing and climate communication. Young people can participate as volunteers, partners or mentees, contributing to locally grounded action and more resilient communities.
