## Description

The York Pioneer and Historical Society (YPHS) is Ontario’s oldest historical society, founded on April 17, 1869, when a group of men gathered at Toronto’s Mechanics’ Institute. Based in Toronto, the society is dedicated to preserving the past for the future and sharing local history with the public. Its work connects visitors with heritage through Scadding Cabin, which is featured at the Canadian National Exhibition and offers opportunities to explore its history, including a 360-degree interior view. YPHS also organizes public events, including Simcoe Day in Toronto, Doors Open Toronto, and its annual general meeting. At the CNE, the society’s programming may include spinning and stitching demonstrations, a milliner, culinary history, and access to its archivist. For those wishing to learn more, YPHS offers books, journals, and its Update newsletter, as well as historical plaques and reference materials. The society welcomes support through membership and donations, and provides information about its mission, history, governance, partners, events, and ways to visit Scadding Cabin.
