About
Description
Young Chicago Authors is an organization dedicated to helping young people from all backgrounds understand the power of their own stories and those of others. Through creative writing, they provide a platform for youth expression and inspire them to make their communities more just and equitable. Founded 28 years ago by educator Bob Boone, Young Chicago Authors began as a small writing workshop and has since grown into a vibrant literary community.
They offer various programs and initiatives such as the Rooted & Radical Youth Poetry Festival, Roots Crew Summer Internship, WordPlay (Open Mic), Check the Method (Poetry), and Every Word Counts (Songwriting). These programs serve as an introduction to and immersion in the world of literature, transcending cultural and socio-economic boundaries. With a focus on artistic learning and expression, social and emotional learning, and academic success, Young Chicago Authors empowers young people to shape their experiences into meaningful works of art and contribute to a more inclusive society
