Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo (YDSP) is a renowned Native American tribe and the only Pueblo tribe in Texas. With a population of approximately 4,226 members across the country, YDSP has a rich history dating back over 300 years. Located just thirteen miles from downtown El Paso, Ysleta has been the ancestral home of the Tigua people. After enduring oppression during the early Spanish settlement period, the Tigua people rebelled and relocated to the El Paso/Tigua region. Over the years, YDSP has flourished as the oldest community in Texas, boasting the oldest running government since its establishment in 1682. Today, YDSP is an active participant in the greater El Paso region, contributing to both the Pueblo and the local economy. The tribe operates a tribal government and diverse enterprises that provide employment and benefits to tribal members as well as citizens from the region. With a local workforce of nearly 1,200 individuals, including 30% who are YDSP members, the tribe is committed to creating employment opportunities and achieving economic self-sufficiency. The revenue generated from these tribal sectors is used to enhance community infrastructure and services, including healthcare, education, law enforcement, housing, and economic development.
