About

Description

YWCA Charleston is a Nonprofit Organization committed to serving the people of our community in Charleston WV. With a focus on racial equity and inclusion, our Racial Justice Program provides education, awareness, and services to foster healthier race relations in Kanawha, Boone, and Clay counties. We work closely with various community partners and social justice organizations, creating safe spaces for truth-telling, uncomfortable conversations, and healing.

Our goal is to eliminate racism by supporting racial equity and inclusion initiatives that enrich our communities. Our program offers a range of impactful activities and initiatives. These include facilitated sessions on anti-racism, where participants learn to understand bias and become allies.

We also conduct conversations with elementary-aged students, promoting cultural appreciation and diversity. Our film series, Reel Talk, highlights the impacts and nuances of racism, sparking insightful discussions. Additionally, we organize the annual Race to End Racism, a run/walk event that raises awareness and funds for racial justice work.

Join us in creating a more inclusive and equitable community. Contact Shanté Ellis, Program Director at (304)-340-3594 or shante@ywcacharleston. org to get involved and be part of the conversation.
