## Description

Yalukit Willam Nature Association (YWNA) is a not-for-profit community organisation formed in 2017 to help restore and care for the Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve in Melbourne. Its vision is a tranquil, welcoming place where native landscapes provide refuge for people and wildlife. Working with Bayside City Council, YWNA is transforming the former Elsternwick Park golf course into a wetland, native parkland and urban forest guided by a 10-year masterplan. The association’s work focuses on restoring habitat, supporting biodiversity, improving water quality and creating an attractive public space for quiet recreation. Its projects include the Chain of Ponds, which brings Elster Creek back to the surface and uses wetlands to filter stormwater. YWNA also runs citizen science and community programs, including monthly bird surveys, water-quality monitoring, invertebrate surveys and a volunteer plant propagation facility. Members and volunteers can take part in working bees, planting, litter cleanups, education and advocacy. Through these activities, the association helps residents contribute to research and the ongoing restoration of a distinctive urban nature reserve.
