Zoo Knoxville is a renowned zoological brand dedicated to animal conservation and education. With a commitment to save species from extinction, both locally and globally, Zoo Knoxville is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), the largest conservation movement on the planet. To ensure the preservation of diverse animal populations, they collaborate with other AZA members on a collective Species Survival Plan. Zoo Knoxville actively participates in the AZA SAFE program, focusing on leveraging the expertise and massive audiences of accredited zoos and aquariums to save endangered species. As a founding member, Zoo Knoxville is involved in the conservation efforts of several endangered animals, including the North American Turtle, Radiated Tortoise, Monarch Butterfly, Red Wolf, Cuban Crocodile, African Lion, and Bog Turtles. In addition, Zoo Knoxville plays a vital role in the survival of the critically endangered bog turtle species in Tennessee. Through captive breeding and head-start programs, they help nurture and release these turtles back into the wild. Zoo Knoxville is also recognized for its exceptional breeding and care of Malagasy tortoises and red pandas. Furthermore, their otters, Pascal, Clayton, and Reed, serve as ambassadors for clean water, advocating for the protection of otter habitats by encouraging visitors to use reusable water bottles. Lion cubs Anga and Maji take on an important mission at Zoo Knoxville, raising awareness about the plight of their endangered species and contributing proceeds from ticket sales to conservation organizations like Lion Landscapes.
