About

Description

Recovering the Classics' 50x50 campaign is a celebration of beautiful book covers that span the entire country. This initiative aims to engage communities worldwide by showcasing 50 classic book covers in all 50 states. By hosting your own 50x50 event, you can contribute to the success of Recovering the Classics and nurture a community of book-lovers in the process.

In 2013, Recovering the Classics invited designers from all over the world to reimagine covers for beloved books in the public domain. This spring, they announced a partnership with esteemed institutions such as the New York Public Library, the White House, and the Digital Public Library of America. Together, they are bringing these remarkable book covers to libraries and schools across the nation through special edition ebooks.

Recovering the Classics collaborates with libraries, schools, bookstores, galleries, and local civic organizations, among others, to create their own events centered around these captivating book covers. Exhibits, readings, school activities, and design-a-thons are just a few examples of the activities that take place. By participating in these events, we can develop a vibrant community of readers who will continue to exchange ideas, host events, and engage with these classic works for years to come.

To support their nationwide exhibits, Recovering the Classics launched a Kickstarter campaign in 2013. Backers were rewarded with posters, postcards, and business cards, showcasing the marvelous cover designs. Some notable events held as part of the 50x50 campaign include a pop-gallery in the prestigious Salomon Room of the New York Public Library during BookExpo America.

Hosted by the NYPL, the National Book Foundation, the Harvard Book Store, and TinyLetter, this event showcased 50 incredible book covers. Additionally, the Rochester Museum of Fine Arts in New Hampshire hosted its own 50x50 exhibit, further contributing to the nationwide celebration
