With a vision to reduce air pollution by 20-30% by 2025, A-PAG focuses on the Indo-Gangetic plain, where the problem is particularly acute. Air pollution has devastating effects on human life, ranking fourth globally among leading risk factors causing deaths. Unfortunately, India is the second-most polluted country in the world, with cities like Delhi shortening lifespans by 10 years. A-PAG's approach involves collaborating with the government at all levels and working across all five sources of pollution: dust, industrial, domestic, biomass, and vehicular.

Their three-pronged strategy includes program implementation support, creation of knowledge resources, and policy research and advocacy. A-PAG deploys Project Management Units (PMUs) to ensure enforcement and implementation, produces toolkits and resources to address key issues, and supports decision-making to prioritize air pollution. Through pilot programs, A-PAG works closely with governments and municipal bodies to fight air pollution, while also bridging knowledge and resource gaps.
