About
Description
Asian American Donor Program (AADP) is a community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the availability of potential stem cell donors for patients with life-threatening diseases curable by a stem cell transplant. AADP conducts outreach and donor registration drives in diverse communities to ensure that patients have access to life-saving treatment. In 1989, AADP was inspired by the plight of two Asian leukemia patients, Amanda Chiang and Judith Jang Berkoltz, who urgently needed a bone marrow transplant but couldn't find a match within their families.
This led to a statewide appeal to recruit more Asians onto the registry. Although no matches were found, the successful recruitment of over 2,000 Asians paved the way for AADP's mission. The organization's logo, the origami crane, honors the memory of Sadako Sasaki, an 11-year-old girl who wished for a thousand cranes to come alive in order to survive her leukemia.
Origami cranes from around the world arrived as a symbol of support and empathy. Join AADP to make a difference in the lives of patients in need, and follow them on social media to stay updated on their impactful work
