About

Description

Founded in 1914, the Art Gallery of Hamilton (AGH) stands as the oldest and largest art museum in Southern Ontario. Its permanent collection is acclaimed as one of Canada's finest. At AGH, we aim to create a space that fosters respect and dignity for all individuals, striving to be a welcoming and safer environment.

Our exhibitions and programs are designed to encourage access, promote education, and showcase the diverse representation of art and artists from the region. As we acknowledge our own limitations, we understand that the community determines if we genuinely provide a safer space. In light of the recent tragic discoveries of unmarked graves of Indigenous children and their families, we must confront the genocidal acts perpetrated against Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

AGH is committed to doing substantial work within museums, art galleries, and systems to address these historical and current realities that harm Indigenous communities. Words and symbolic gestures are not enough; we are dedicated to taking meaningful action and ensuring a more inclusive and just future
