About

Description

Arthurdale Heritage is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the preservation of historic Arthurdale, WV. This community thrived in the 1930s but faced challenges in the following decades, with neglect and deterioration impacting its buildings. In 1984, residents came together to celebrate Arthurdale's 50th anniversary and established Arthurdale Heritage, Inc.

(AHI), aiming to preserve the history of the nation's first New Deal community. Since 1985, AHI has successfully restored five of Arthurdale's historic buildings, with ongoing preservation efforts. Currently, the organization's focus is on restoring the historic school buildings and rebuilding other structures that were part of the Center Hall complex.

These restored buildings will offer rental space for local businesses and a trade school for historic preservation. In addition to preserving Arthurdale's history, Arthurdale Heritage actively works to develop the community for the future. The organization offers arts and educational programs, hosts events like the New Deal Festival, and participates in Smithsonian exhibits.

Visitors can enjoy guided tours of the museum and explore the Craft Shop. Arthurdale Heritage welcomes guests to experience the rich history of this remarkable community and shares the inspiring story of resilience and preservation
